Kwatta gaat naar Amerika

Kwatta is geselecteerd voor een showcase in Amerika! Van 22 tot 25 januari 2014 speelt Kwatta haar voorstelling Mismuis – oftewel Manxmouse – voor IPAY in Pittsburgh. IPAY – International Performing Arts for Youth – biedt gezelschappen voor jeugdpodiumkunsten de mogelijkheid om hun programma wereldwijd te presenteren. Van de 144 aanmeldingen voor IPAY zijn 17 voorstellingen geselecteerd. Kwatta is het enige Nederlandse jeugdtheatergezelschap dat aanwezig zal zijn.
4 april jongstleden speelde Kwatta, in Utrecht, de voorstelling Mismuis voor een commissie van buitenlandse programmeurs, in het kader van Assitej. En met succes, want naar aanleiding hiervan werd Mismuis als enig Nederlands jeugdtheatergezelschap geselecteerd voor het gerenommeerde Schotse Imaginate Festival in Edinburgh (van 5-12 mei 2014). Daarnaast adviseerde IPAY Kwatta dringend om Mismuis aan te melden voor de showcase in Pittsburgh 2014.
Kwatta speelde afgelopen najaar de voorstelling Mismuis voor kinderen vanaf 6 jaar. Mismuis is een avontuurlijke voorstelling over een dappere muis die als muis dan misschien wel mislukt is, maar als Mismuis gelukkig heel geslaagd blijkt te zijn! De voorstelling werd lovend ontvangen en kreeg van zowel de Volkskrant als theaterkrant.nl een viersterrenrecensie.
Kwatta heeft de ambitie om zich de komende jaren meer te begeven op de internationale markt.

The Showcase Selection Committee deliberated for two days viewing over 140 applications from around the world, before officially selecting 17 productions from seven countries, including four from the United States and three from Canada. The 17 productions represent a wide range of work including theater and musical theater, dance, circus and physical comedy, puppetry and installation. Productions range from small intimate performances to large-scale spectacle and have been created for young audiences ranging in age from babies to teenagers.
“We’re constantly amazed at the diversity of our field and so proud to be showcasing an amazing list of artists and productions from the United States and Canada, as well as from Australia, the Netherlands, France, Northern Ireland and Spain,” says Boomer Stacey, IPAY Executive Director. “We receive more and more applications each year, continuing to raise the bar on outstanding, innovative performing arts for young audiences.”
IPAY will host former Showcasing artists such as Terrapin Puppet Theatre (Australia), Tout â Trac (Canada), Theatergroep Kwatta (Netherlands) and Teatro Paraiso (Spain) returning to Showcase with new work, and we are excited to experience productions by artists new to our event such as Cirque Alfonse (Canada), arch 8 dance group (Netherlands), Cahoots NI (Northern Ireland) and Barking Gecko Theatre (Australia).
“I’d like to acknowledge and thank the Selection Committee for their time and expertise in making the final selections but more importantly I’d like to thank and acknowledge the entire group of over 140 artists that submitted applications for consideration,” says Stacey. “Many of these artists will have an opportunity to be seen in Spotlights (10- minute excerpts) and/or in the Exhibition Room at Showcase. It truly is a great community of artists creating important work.”

A preliminary schedule will soon be added which may have additional productions incorporated as well as information on ancillary Showcase events such as Kindling, Exhibition Room and Membership Meeting.
