NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS WANTED

Talk to two of your friends and earn 26€ each!

You are invited to take part in a research study entitled “An investigation of communicative behaviour in naturalistic conversational settings”. The research investigates the patterns of conversational behaviour in order to provide us with a fuller understanding of human social behaviour and interaction.

There is no ‘task’ that we will ask you to complete; instead, you will be asked to come to our lab with two of your friends and to engage in a casual conversation with your two fellow participants.

In order to gain a better understanding of human behaviour in conversation, we employ a range of measures from all three participants:

1) We will track participants’ eye movements using head-mounted eye trackers in the form of spectacles

2) We will video-record each interaction so that we have a record of the entire conversation.

Procedure and payment details:
The conversational part of the experiment will last 40 minutes, fitting of the equipment takes about 30 minutes, and introduction plus completion of post-experiment questionnaires will take up to 50 minutes. The entire session will therefore last up to 2 hours (compensated at the standard rate of 8€/h = 16 Euros), and this is the time window we would require all three participants to set aside for participation in the study. Because the study requires some preparation time in terms of finding, and liaising with, your friends to agree available times and so on, this study pays an additional preparation fee of 10 Euros (flat rate), resulting in payment of 26 Euros per person.

You and your friends must be native English speakers to take part in the study.

Only people not suffering from any language or motor impairments can participate.

If you wear spectacles you can NOT participate since the glasses’ reflection interfere with our eye tracking measurements (contact lenses are fine though).
